If you follow Kylie Jenner then you’ve probably heard of Cocowhite. Or at least heard about oil pulling. Or just coconut oil for teeth whitening in general.
Before I get into my Cocowhite review, first an explanation. Cocowhite is a an ‘oil pulling’ product to temporarily whiten your teeth. Essentially it’s coconut oil, like the stuff you cook with. It’s becoming more commonly used in beauty regimes for the hair, body and now teeth.
Yep, someone somewhere discovered by swirling coconut oil around in your mouth for up to 15 minutes every day for a few weeks actually whitens your teeth.
It sounds a bit weird, but it can save you a lot of money rather than getting your teeth whitened professionally.
So, how does Cocowhite work?
As I just mentioned it’s like a mouthwash you swirl around in your mouth for up to 15 minutes. Cocowhite call this ‘oil pulling’.
There’s no harsh chemicals involved and it’s all natural, so I thought I’d give this a go back in summer and decided to review it.

Ewe, does it feel/taste gross?
Yes, yes it does feel and taste a bit gross – at first. This is mostly because coconut oil is a solid, until it’s warmed up. To make it easier (by turning it into a liquid faster), I warmed up a sachet by rubbing it between my hands first.
Trying it for the first time is the worst, but you quickly get used to it. However, the next part might put you off. Swirling it around for 15 minutes? Yes, this can make your jaw ache. To help make the time go faster and take the attention away from my aching jaw, I kept myself distracted. So I read a book, watched Netflix (Pokémon Johto League, oh yes) or chatted to my friends on WhatsApp.
Tastewise it’s fine; the mint, lemon or vanilla flavouring really help.
Does Cocowhite work?
Following the instructions on the back of the box, I swirled one sachet every night before I went to bed and before I brushed my teeth.
I did this without fail for 2 solid weeks and the results you can see below in my before and after photos:
Yes I know my teeth aren’t perfect, but for the purposes of this review I’d rather you focus on how much whiter my teeth appear please.
I definitely noticed a difference, as well as my teeth feeling generally cleaner too. I’d say it took just over a week to start seeing the results and when I finished the packet the effects lasted a few days, before gradually fading away.
My Cocowhite review
Although I wouldn’t use Cocowhite as a continuing treatment, down to the time and effort involved, I would definitely use it again.
For a teeth whitening product where you don’t have to avoid certain hot drinks and food, the final result is still pretty good.
If I have a big event coming up, like a wedding, birthday etc. then I’d definitely look towards Cocowhite again.
